New names for smarti® units
Since we are planning to broaden our smarti® units range we have decided to change the names of the existing smarti® units. The units will from now on be named after stars alphabetically in the other they come out!
Indoor is now Alcor
The Indoor unit is now named Alcor after a star which is forever tied with its naked eye double the star Mizar in the tail of Ursa Major. They are hardly ever spoken of unless as "Mizar and Alcor," or the horse and the rider.
Betria is the new name for the Spot unit
The Spot unit came out second so it is named Betria also know as Beta Trianguli Australis the brightest star in the constellation Triangulum Australe. It is approximately 40.1 light years from Earth.
Outdoor has been renamed to Castor
Castor is the new name for the Outdoor unit. Castor is the second brightest star in the constellation Gemini and one of the brightest stars in the night-time sky. Although it has the Bayer designation "alpha", it is actually fainter than Beta Geminorum (Pollux). Castor and Pollux are the two "heavenly twin" stars that give the constellation Gemini (meaning "twins" in Latin) its name. Actually the name Castor refers specifically to Castor, one of the twin sons of Zeus and Leda. The star also has the Arabic name Al-Ras al-Taum al-Muqadim, which literally means "The Head of the Foremost Twin". The Chinese recognized Castor as Yin, which is, according to the Chinese, one of the two fundamental principles upon which all things depend.
New smarti® catalogue
Since we changed the names of the smarti® units we also decided to completely redesign the catalogue. We put a lot of effort into it and we hope that you will like the new look and content of the redesigned catalogue.

Case study: smarti® used in an IT company
An IT company wanted to introduce a biometric solution to control access to their premises and server room.
The company has an independent entrance to their offices which are located in a large corporate building. This leads into a corridor which ends with two doors. One door leads to the secretary’s office and the management, the other to the offices and the server room.
The company wanted to implement access control:
-
at the main entrance, where access would be granted to all employees a video intercom would make communication with the visitors possible and time & attendance would be tracked.
-
at the entrance to the secretary’s and management’s offices only management and the secretary would have access.
-
to other offices all employees would have supervised access.
-
to the server room only authorized personnel would have access.
